Summertime

Part of the Brandenburg Choral Festival of London 2018 Autumn Series

The Brandenburg Choral Festival of London welcomes back The Wooburn Singers and conductor Tom Hammond-Davies for this evening of light choral music. They open with Sir Michael Tippett’s catchy Five Spirituals from A Child of our Time, before moving on to celebrate the music of George Gershwin. The first half features songs and an instrumental interlude from pianist Simon Howat, who will perform his jazzy Three Preludes. After the interval, highlights from Porgy and Bess, including It ain’t necessarily so, Bess, you is my woman now, and the iconic song of the concert’s title, Summertime. The choir will be joined by talented vocalists Anna Sideris and Rodney Earl Clarke.

SONGS OF WAR AND REMEMBRANCE

In commemoration of the centenary year 1918, the end of the Great War, baritone Rodney Earl Clarke will perform with composer-pianist Louis Mander music of wartime composers, Ralph Vaughan Williams, George Butterworth, Ivor Gurney and a new song cycle by Louis Mander.

This is by special arrangement with St Peter's Church, Belsize Park, as part of their Autumn at St Peter's festival 2018.
